Aster's Linden Court criticised by Cllr Nik Daas
A supported living home in Romsey has been criticised for removing a stair lift, assistance cords and outside taps by local councillors.
Linden Court, on Linden Road, was set up specifically for older residents on a long-term contract in which they can be supported by an independent living warden plus other amenities such as help cords in case of emergencies.
However, in a recent letter, resident were informed that the building would be undergoing changes which would see amenities they rely removed. Residents had 28 days to responds to the consultation, subsequently the works went ahead.
Romsey Cllrs Nik Daas and John Critchley met with residents of Linden Court to discuss the changes.
Mr Daas said: "These changes are hostile tactics by Aster to try and oust residents from the place they call home. What has angered me the most was the removal of the stairlift - there are a number of older residents on the first floor, there is one who is partially blind and another in their eighties, how can they be expected to cope with such changes."
A spokesperson from Aster Group, said: "As a responsible landlord we continually review all of our properties and consult with our customers to ensure we are providing the right type of affordable homes for each local community.
"Over the last few years, Linden Court's amenities specifically for older customers have not been utilised while demand for more homes for people of all ages in Romsey and the wider community has increased. As a result, we've taken the decision to make some adjustments to the homes, so they are better suited to people who can live independently, without any special housing requirements.
"We've worked with each customer who currently lives at Linden Court to make sure their housing needs will continue to be fully met when all changes have been made.
"We'll continue to provide housing for older people in Romsey at our Wakeford Court scheme, where customers will still be able to benefit from our Independent Living service.
"Our Neighbourhood team will remain in place to support our customers with any housing queries, and we'd encourage any customers with any questions about Linden Court to get in touch on 0333 400 8222."
