Demanding better value, demanding better facilities.
Every year, Council tax rises and services reduce. Many cuts are passed down by the Tories in Westminster. Locally, they are spending more than ever on consultants and subsidies to big businesses. This money should be spent on protecting our local services, not cutting them. It's time to put our residents first.
In 2012, Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council Tories paid out for consultants and then promised a new leisure park. Nothing has happened since. Our ice rink faces an uncertain future, our football club has no permanent home. Events like Basingstoke Live are being scrapped. Residents of Basingstoke & Deane deserve better. Basingstoke should be a great place to live with facilities to match.
The Leisure Park regeneration is a great opportunity to build a zero-carbon park with energy needs generated on site. Big roofs are big opportunities. Beyond the leisure park, more trees and green spaces can soak up CO2. Let's increase biodiversity and create great places to walk, play and relax.
