NW Hampshire residents have lobbied their MP Kit Malthouse regarding his stance on Brexit. The residents, members of NW Hampshire for Europe, are dismayed at the government's increasing "hard Brexit" stance and the MP's claim that they were wrong in challenging his approach.

In response the group has written

"We were not however satisfied with your comment to the effect that our views were 'wrong'. Politics is an imperfect and inexact activity. 'Brexit' still lacks a roadmap about how this specific vision of the country's future will be better for the UK than continued membership of the European Union and its many advantages. This is what we need to clarify with you if we are to be convinced that the current government's plan is the best possible, and genuinely in the national interest."

"We therefore expect to see full parliamentary debate and scrutiny guaranteed in respect of the following ten areas:

I. Individual EU citizenship for all UK citizens who want it;

II. The continued right to travel visa-free across Europe;

III. Continued rights under supranational law for EU citizens in the UK, and their safety from increased right-wing induced hate-crime;

IV. Assured continued rights under supranational law for UK citizens in other EU member-states;

V. The maintenance of existing EU environmental protection, food standards, and employment rights;

VI. Future funding for the NHS as per the 'Leave' pledge;

VII. Proof that Free Trade Areas will be more beneficial to the UK economy than continued membership of the Single Market (and the EU's pursuit of global FTAs);

VIII. Evidence that the UK government has a plan to deal with the economic downturn likely to occur at the moment of the country's departure from the EU;

IX. How a less significant UK intends to be more effective on the world stage vis-à-vis turbulence within the international system;

X. A fresh vote, referendum, or election on the final agreement. "

The group is seeking a meeting with Mr Malthouse to discuss these issues in more detail. Mr Malthouse has yet to reply to their letter. North West Hampshire for Europe can be contacted at nwhants4europe@gmail.com.
