Lib Dems get Tips re-opened: Report

10 May 2020

It became self-evident a few weeks ago that the closure of Hampshire's Household Waste Recycling Centres was contributing to an increase in bonfires and fly-tipping. There was a direct correlation with the closure of the HWRCs.

In response to public concerns I and my Liberal Democrat colleagues called for a re-opening of the HWRCs. The County initially stated it could not because the police would not see accessing an HWRC as an essential journey and because it would be difficult to maintain social distancing on site. There was also the issue of long vehicle queues building up outside the HWRCs.

Information from central government suggested there was a growing need to re-open the HWRCs. Under pressure from two sides, Hampshire has at last agreed to a phased re-opening. It will start on 11th May. Access will be limited to five vehicles on site at one time.

Residents will need to have registered their vehicle registration number on the Hampshire website if they haven't already done so before they access the HWRCs.
