About Alex
Alex Payton is 41 and works as a barrister. He has lived in Thatcham (where he was mayor) and Newbury for over thirty years. Currently living in the south of Newbury in Greenham, he is almost literally a stone's throw from the border, and is the most local choice amongst the major parties.
North West Hampshire has an opportunity for a new start after years of being politically taken for granted. The Lib Dems are the real challenger to the Conservatives, second in both councillor numbers and votes at the last general elections. The SNP is irrelevant here - Labour can't win and the SNP are not standing.
At a national level, the Liberal Democrats want to protect the NHS, balance the books, raise the income tax threshold to £12,500 and introduce a legal right for those on zero-hours contracts to request a fixed contract.
In any coalition, the Lib Dems would give a heart to any Conservative government. And a head to any Labour one.
But this election is not just about national politics. Your MP's key role is to represent and support the people of North West Hampshire. Alex has a record of acting and achieving for his community, from successfully fighting to retain local post offices, to ensuring the local NHS provides for palliative care.
Unlike the Conservative candidate Alex does not have company directorships taking up his time. If elected, Alex will live in the constituency as a full time MP. He would put North West Hampshire first.
Alex will be a local MP for local people, improving facilities and transport links, putting pressure on the council over its housing process, and ensuring you have an effective local voice in parliament.
Please vote for the Liberal Democrats on 7th May, for your local councils and for your MP.
