Brexit Broadcasting Company
Another letter from a local resident this time to the BBC
I was appalled to see the main story was the resignation of the only UKIP MP from his party. This report covered over five minutes of the broadcast. Meanwhile a major story of 100,000 people marching against the government's EU policy was added almost as an afterthought/filler. UKIP now have no MPs and represent at most 10% of the electorate and yet they and their odious ex-leader Farage are continually given coverage whilst the views of the 48% of the electorate opposed the government policies are ignored.
Please show some backbone and stop being intimidated by the hard Brexit fanatics who have seized control of our government. The BBC should regain a sense of balance and represent the views of all viewers not just the few.
And the BBC's reply
Thank you for contacting us about BBC News coverage of the 'Unite for Europe' march on March 25.
We have received a wide range of feedback about our coverage. Keeping in mind the pressure on our resources, our reply aims to address the key points raised, but we apologise if your points have not been specifically addressed.
The main areas of concern were about the level of coverage the march received or that other issues we covered appeared to show a pro-Brexit bias.
At weekends, our network news bulletins are shorter - but the protest featured on TV bulletins at 6 and 10pm, as well as on the BBC News Channel, the Six o'clock News on Radio 4, and Online, where we reported on the marches in London, Edinburgh and elsewhere:
We also covered other political developments, including the resignation of Douglas Carswell from UKIP. This was an important move that leaves the party without an MP and our decision to cover it does not, of course, mean the BBC has adopted a position on the party or its policies.
We would like to reassure you that BBC News will continue to cover Brexit-related developments in a fair and impartial manner.
The complainant's response
Given the behaviour of the anti-European bullies dominating the current government I remain to be convinced by the last sentence.
