Labour a wasted vote in North West Hampshire
Some commentators (and Labour activists) have been arguing that Labour can win in North West Hampshire.
This appears to have been based solely on one election result from 2015 and without consideration of wider factors and other voting data.
Results in the last three general elections were as follows
Party | 2015 | 2010 | 2005 |
Conservative | 58.1% | 58.3% | 50.7% |
Liberal Democrat | 9.3% | 23.4% | 24.9% |
Labour | 13.3% | 13.1% | 20.7% |
UKIP | 14.7% | 5.2% | 3.8% |
Green | 4.6% | - | - |
More recently (2015) the current Labour parliamentary candidate was a candidate in the Test Valley Borough Council elections in Andover Alamein ward where votes cast were
Conservative | 48% |
Liberal Democrat | 20% |
Labour | 15% |
UKIP | 9% |
Green | 8% |
The same candidate also stood in the recent Andover West Hampshire County Council election where the result was
Conservative | 56% |
Liberal Democrat | 20% |
Labour | 15% |
UKIP | 10% |
The total number of votes cast for the main parties (independents excluded) across North West Hampshire in the 2017 county council elections was
Conservative | 14717 (57%) |
Liberal Democrat | 6581 (26%) |
Labour | 2280 (9%) |
UKIP | 1503 (6%) |
Green | 701 (3%) |
Under the circumstances a vote for Labour in the upcoming general election would be a wasted protest vote.
The strongest challenger to the incumbent Tory is Alex Payton the Liberal Democrat candidate. Vote Liberal Democrat for a real alternative to the Conservatives.
